Renata’s Milk Bath
I finally tried something today that I’ve been itching to do for some time. I’m in a few photography groups on Facebook, and recently I’ve been seeing a lot of milk bath sessions posted in a few of the groups, so I decided to try it out today with my 11 month old.
Now, normally it seems that people use powdered milk to get the water to look extra milky, but my toddler is allergic to cow’s milk and I didn’t want to have to give Renata an actual bath right after the milk bath, so I just used some spare breastmilk. It turned out fine, but if I need to go that route again (as I’m considering doing a similar shoot for my toddler), I’ll add a bit more breastmilk to make it more opaque.
Anyways. So I used about 8 ounces of breastmilk, a galvanized steel tub from Walmart, a $5 bouquet of flowers, and a strawberry. My daughter wore a swim diaper, her amber teething necklace, and a cute bow. Photos were taken in my front yard, and I avoided photographing the piles of tree branches I had just cut off yesterday. 😉
Oh, and while I was doing all this, my stepdaughter was making a cake. So I updated my letterboard to say “Let’s make memories (& cake)”.
